A 26-year-old man comes to the physician for a follow-up appointment. Two weeks ago, he scraped his forearm while falling off his bicycle. The wound was irrigated with sterile saline and disinfected with topical iodine. A few sutures were applied, which were removed one week ago. Vitals are normal. Physical examination of the wound shows erythematous skin with regions of fibrin coating. There is no warmth or tenderness. The patient says the area is sometimes intensely itchy.
