Audio Qbank – Q298 – A 6F with hip pain

A 6-year-old girl is brought to hospital by her mother for a one-day history of left hip pain and limping. She has no past medical history or recent trauma. Her mother says she recently recovered from an upper respiratory tract infection in which she had three days of coryza and dry cough. The patient is afebrile. On physical examination, there is mild pain to palpation of the left hip. The girl resists passive and active motion of her hip due to pain. There is no apparent erythema. Ultrasound and x-ray of the hip are unremarkable. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?

Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease
Meralgia paresthetica
Septic arthritis
