HY USMLE Q #1348 – Pathology

A 58-year-old woman comes to the physician due to progressive weakness in her arms and thighs for the past 2 months. She also reports a red, scaly rash on the backs of her hands and upper chest that developed shortly after the weakness began. She has had decreased appetite and unintentional weight loss of 4 kg. Physical examination shows a violaceous rash over the eyelids and knuckles. She also has symmetric proximal muscle weakness. Serum CK is elevated. A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis reveals a complex adnexal mass. Biopsy of the mass shows malignant epithelial cells with papillary structures and concentric calcifications.
